Instead of our traditional Static Rally we held a Spring/Summer Picnic at the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore, in May.
Our spot at Cranmore overlooked the main car park and the railway line was behind us.
The workshops and museum at Cranmore are well worth a visit and a ride on the steam train added to the enjoyment of the day.
This year we had planned to have a “Summer Picnic” near the beginning of June instead of our usual annual static Rally. However, because of Covid-19, we have rolled the idea on for next year's Rally.
The Summer Picnic was to have been an informal gathering with groups setting out from a range of start points and following scenic routes ultimately converging at the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore. Those who had wished to make a weekend of it would have arranged camping nearby or stayed at local B&Bs.
Our Rally was held at the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum in July.
It is a small friendly museum situated in the heart of Wiltshire. The majority of the 100+ exhibits are cars from the 1920s onwards. They also have a collection of motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles as well as interesting motoring memorabilia, a Jack Spittle model lorry collection and a reconstructed 1930s style garage complete with vehicles. In addition, this year sees the grand opening of the reconstructed Jack French garage, so our rally featured Specials.
Camping was available in the big field on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
A road run was organised, as usual, by Norman Whitworth on the Saturday. Starting at the Atwell-Wilson Museum, driving along lanes known only to him, to the Richard Jefferies Museum at Coate, where a few vehicles joined the vintage steam and agricultural display.
Sunday was the static rally day.
The official openting of the Jack French Garage was on the Sunday.
By popular request, we were entertained, on Sunday, by the Panama Jazz Band.
